First stage on the growth of Au-Pt dimers from Platinum cubeoctahedral nanocrystals. Due to their electrocatallytic properties Pt-based bimetallic nanoparticles have potential application as fuel cell catalysts. In particular, the modification of Pt nanocrystals with heterogenously segregated Au domain extends also the applications of these nanoparticles to fields such as plasmonics, conferring a bifunctional character. In this HAADF-STEM image the mesoscale organization of the Pt cubeoctahedral nanoparticles on the carbon grid resembles a stingray swimming in the ocean . Equipment: HAADF-STEM image obtained with a FEI Tecnai G2F30 S-Twin STEM microscope, operated at 300 kV, with 0.2 nm point resolution, and equipped with a HAADF Fischione detector with 0.16 nm point resolution.
